Our food waste programs help people & restaurants reduce wasted food. We created a food scrap drop-off program where food scraps are turned into compost. These programs resulted in 38,200 lbs of food scraps diverted in 7 months.
Sustainable Southbury expanded and extended its annual community energy campaigns to cover home energy audits, weatherization, energy conservation, heat pumps, solar, and battery storage. In partnership with solar vendors and SmartPower, the nation’s leading non-profit marketing organization promoting clean energy and energy efficiency our PowerSmart campaign helps people better understand solar, battery energy storage and financial incentives. A HeatSmart campaign will educate residents on the advantages of Heat Pumps and how best to convert to one.
Recycling and plastic reduction campaigns include redemption events on the first Sunday of the month to collect redeemable bottles & cans, making it easy for residents to receive their full redemption amount quickly. Over 100,000 bottles and cans have been collected during 8 events! Our Refill Not Landfill campaign encourages residents to use reusable cups when purchasing hot or cold drinks at Southbury retailers. To help encourage people to use refillable cups instead of single-use plastics, Sustainable Southbury is funding a $25 monthly prize drawing for customers who use refillable cups at participating stores.
