About Us

Incorporated in 1921, Goodwill of Delaware and Delaware County is the oldest nonprofit organization providing job training and placement services in Delaware. Goodwill operates on the philosophy of "Give a hand up, not a hand out." Our original intent was to put people to work by collecting, repairing and reselling clothing and household items. The purpose was, and still is, to discover the productive capabilities inherent in all people.

Every day, we work to fulfill our core mission of improving the quality of life for people with barriers to self-sufficiency through the Power of Work. Goodwill defines barriers broadly to include physical and intellectual disabilities, unemployment, underemployment, age, veteran status and past incarceration. With generous material donations and monetary contributions from the community, we offer our job training and placement programs to people with barriers to employment. In addition, Goodwill operates three distinct businesses – Goodwill Stores and Auctions, Goodwill Janitorial Services and Goodwill Staffing Services. These social enterprises provide valuable services to the community and also offer numerous employment and training opportunities for the people we serve.

Our strongest impact is realized when people secure employment through our training programs and placement services. In 2014 we helped 600 individuals secure gainful employment, surpassing our goal of 500.
