About Us

Established in 1976 by a group of former mental health clients, Mental Health Consumer Concerns (MHCC) is a model of client empowerment and advocacy. MHCC is proud to say we are the longest running consumer driven organization in the United States. In 1981, we were the first client group to be awarded a Patients’ Rights Advocacy contract in the State of California. MHCC currently provides state mandated patients’ rights advocacy services in Contra Costa and Napa counties in addition to systems advocacy on the local and state levels. We were a catalyst in the creation of self-help groups in Contra Costa, Napa and Solano counties, an anti-stigma campaign in Contra Costa County and multiple Consumer Conferences. Driving the Mental Health System in a positive direction, Mental Health Consumer Concerns' Recovery Vision sets the stage for consumers to reach their highest potential as full participants in society. MHCC works in collaboration with the Office of Consumer Empowerment and the Contra Costa County Mental Health Division to ensure that the Recovery Process happens for both consumers and family members and is proud to be a part of a network of service organizations who are dedicated to transforming the mental health system in order to meet the needs of a diverse population.

Mental Health Consumer Concerns is a 501c3 non-profit peer-service organization providing multi-tiered services at no cost to consumers.
