  • Mission

Our Mission To educate and advocate for the prevention of child abuse and neglect; to prevent child abuse before it happens. Our Vision An involved and informed community where all children live free from abuse and neglect.

    About Us

KCAN started in March 1976 by volunteers from the Service Club (now Junior League of Kalamazoo) in response to the concern of many agencies within the county about the issues of child abuse and neglect. In June 1978, the council was incorporated as a non-profit corporation and received 501(c)(3) tax status. We have a sexual abuse prevention education program, a program that trains community members in how to recognize & report child abuse and neglect, we are involved with safe sleep initiatives and have a Family Help book that provides families in need with resources throughout our county.
