  • Mission

The Surfrider Foundation is dedicated to the protection and enjoyment of the world's ocean, waves and beaches through a powerful activist network. Our Ventura County chapter is dedicated to protecting Ventura's 43 miles of coastline, fighting for beach accessibility, and more.

    About Us

It all started at Surfers’ Point...

We recognize that all things are connected and everything we do impacts our coastline. To this end, for the past two decades we have been working on integrated solutions to the problems that face our ocean, waves, and beaches.

In the early 1990’s, a group of ocean enthusiasts were dismayed and angered by the threat of beach armoring at Surfers’ Point, which would have destroyed the surf break and the beach. This group founded the Ventura County Chapter of the Surfrider Foundation.

Over 20 years later, we are a vibrant chapter that comprises volunteers interested in all aspects of beach and ocean protection. Check out our campaigns, stop by a general meeting (first Tuesday of each month, 6:30-8:30 p.m., exact location announced on our website's calendar of events - All are welcome!). Volunteer with the chapter. Become a member. Whatever your skills and interests are, you can find a way to use them to protect the ocean you love. Join our local Chapter to support grassroots and national-level efforts to preserve the ocean, waves, and beaches.

And, in case you were wondering what happened at Surfers’ Point... It was saved by the dedication of Surfrider members, and is being developed into an example of positive beach management for coasts everywhere.
