First Place for Youth

  • Mission

First Place for Youth is a Bay Area nonprofit founded in 1998 to end homelessness and poverty among former foster youth.

    About Us

First Place targets services to 16-24 year-olds who are preparing to age out of foster care or who have recently aged out of care. Once a youth turns 18, many county-funded services are discontinued for the vast majority of these youth. Moreover, there are limited community services available. Instead of receiving support and guidance during this critical transition, foster youth are without housing, a source of income, adult encouragement, or community support.

It is our mission to support youth in their transition from foster care to successful adulthood by promoting choices and strengthening individual and community resources. First Place works to ensure that all foster youth have the opportunity to exeperience a safe supported transition from foster care. Through a supportive housing program, an academic enrichment program, counseling, youth community center, and collaboration with other Bay Area organizations, we help youth to obtain the skills to live independently and succeed on their own.
