    We believe equines deserve to retire with dignity and love. However for many horses that is not the case and they are discarded by their owners once they are outside their prime and many end up in the kill pens awaiting slaughter in Mexico or Canada. Ranshaw Ranch often takes some of the worst cases, horses with medical issues or conditions that limit their time here on earth. We bring them home to Shoofly Farm and give them as much love and affection as possible so that however long they have left, they experience only the best in the twilight of their lives. We believe in being open and involved with our community giving visitors and volunteers a chance to take part in these horses healing and we find it often heals the human heart as well.

    About Us

    We are a small family-owned, multi-purpose farm and animal sanctuary in the heart of Virginia. We are active in animal rescue, seeking healing and happiness for members of our community and the animals that call Shoofly home . We began rescuing horses in 2019 with a focus on slaughter-bound horses. We formed Shoofly's non-profit organization Ranshaw Ranch to have a greater reach and impact rescuing horses and acting as a type of hospice place for the ones who were too sick or injured and unable to be adopted.
