Relay For Life of Chesapeake VA
If you or someone you know has ever heard the words "You Have Cancer", you know how frightening and maddening that can be. Help the American Cancer Society FIGHT BACK against cancer by getting involved in Relay For Life, a NON-COMPETITIVE, family-friendly, community event.
Relay For Life is the signature activity of the American Cancer Society. Relay For Life has become the largest activity of its kind in the country raising millions of dollars to support the Society’s mission to help you get well, stay well, find cures and fight back so that we all can celebrate more birthdays! Relay For Life is more than a fundraiser- it is also:
A cancer survivor event-within-an-event. At every Relay For Life, cancer survivors are honored for their courage and strength by beginning the event with an honorary lap. Survivors and caregivers are also invited to attend a special dinner reception at the Relay. The individuals in attendance are celebrated and honored in many ways.
A community fair. Few other events bring together all components of a community from children to older adults like the Relay For Life. Games, food, fun, music and activities fill the air of every Relay For Life as everyone joins for a common cause and has fun doing it!
A Luminaria Ceremony of Hope. Survivors and those who are no longer with us are honored at this one-of-a-kind ceremony. Paper bags bearing the names of loved ones line the track and often the entire venue. A candle is placed inside and is lit at dusk. This moving, memorable portion of the event is often the most powerful time of the entire Relay For Life activity.
Form a Relay For Life team! Gather together 15+ of your favorite people who love having fun and making a difference. Teams can be any size, but 15 is a good target number. There is no minimum fundraising requirement, but we do ask that teams try to raise money, as this is a fundrasing event!
Get started TODAY by visiting www.RelayForLife.org/Chesapeake or www.TheRelayForLife.org to find a Relay in your community! Relay is on Facebook, too.
