Academy of the Pacific Rim Public Charter School
Academy of the Pacific Rim Charter Public School (APR) is a free, public charter school offering a rigorous college preparatory program to 525 students in 5th through 12th grade. For 21 years, APR has been committed to serving students of Boston – our students come primarily from Mattapan, Roxbury, Dorchester, and Hyde Park – with the goal of closing the opportunity and achievement gap.
At the Academy of the Pacific Rim, our program incorporates qualities from east Asian sources into a high-performing college preparatory curriculum. We teach Mandarin beginning in the eighth grade and we encourage students to participate in our exchange program with our sister school in Beijing. We operate as an integrated middle and high school and provide extensive college placement and alumni supports. Our work is grounded in the belief that all students can achieve at the highest levels and that all students should see opportunities to contribute in their community and abroad.
APR is guided by foundational principles of agency and equity. Our mission is foster student agency, empowering all learners in our building, and we work daily to build independence in our students. We are further united in our belief in equity, recognizing our responsibility to educate all children; to eliminate gaps in opportunity and achievement; to teach children to be accepting of others, advocates for themselves, and agents of change.
