About Us

The Brother David Darst Center is a social justice education center located in the Bridgeport neighborhood of Chicago. Founded in 2002 as a ministry of the De LaSalle Christian Brothers, the Darst Center is unique in providing an engaging, safe, and reflective environment in which people of all ages can be introduced to and explore issues of social justice. Our primary program is an urban immersion retreat experience for high school and college students.  Our goal is to provide experiences of service that touch key social justice issues and then invite a genuine conversation about the world around us, raising awareness, challenging perceptions, and encouraging behavioral change that reflects the Christian social teachings of peace and justice, honoring the dignity of every person and value of the earth. It is our hope that through participation in Darst Center programs, young people feel inspired to respond to the many needs of the world around them, both personal and systemic.
