SouthernCare Hospice - Muncie, Indiana

  • About Us

At Gentiva, we believe every day is an opportunity to make care more personal and life more comfortable. That's why we offer home health care, palliative care, and hospice care to give people the support they need with dignity, grace, and love.

To become a volunteer, all you need is a compassionate heart. Our volunteer training will teach you everything you need to know to be a companion for someone during their end-of-life journey. You’ll learn valuable skills in grief counseling, spiritual and emotional support, and end-of-life care. Every person has a gift. Our volunteer coordinators will help you find that special something that makes your care truly special and then match your talents with opportunities in your area.

How you serve is up to you.

Here are just some of the things our volunteers are doing that make a real difference in the lives of our patients and their families:

    • holding a hand
    • sharing a story
    • listening
    • reading
    • singing
    • running errands
    • playing a game
    • baking
    • gardening
    • providing administrative support
    • Veteran-to-Veteran support

    Honor a Veteran

There are some things only a soldier understands. Our veteran volunteers show up in the lives of our patients and their families – to trade stories, show appreciation, and share moments of kindness when it matters most. If you’re a Veteran looking for a way to give back, we offer *Veteran-to-Veteran volunteer opportunities that enable you to support a fellow soldier through perhaps the most difficult time in their lives.

We are honored to serve those who have served our country. Our approach to caring for our Veterans focuses on respectful inquiry, compassionate listening, and grateful acknowledgment for a life of dedication. We are also active partners with the We Honor Veterans program.
