New Hope Housing, Inc.
New Hope Housing was founded in 1977 as Route One Corridor Housing by local citizens concerned about people they saw living on the street and in camps along the Route One Corridor. In 1978 they opened the first homeless shelter in Fairfax County. Over time, they realized the need was much greater and opened a family shelter and a second shelter for adults in the early 1980s. Pamela L. Michell was hired as Executive Director in 1990 and would lead New Hope Housing to develop new post-shelter options that included transitional and permanent housing. Today, New Hope Housing operates 7 shelter programs, 2 transitional housing, 9 permanent supportive housing programs, as well as outreach and prevention programs in Fairfax County, Arlington County, Alexandria, and Falls Church.
