About Us

The California Council of Churches, founded in 1913 and long known for its work in the public policy arena and with its members and denominations around many social justice issues, is the key organization that can engage these often-difficult discussions, lead people through the controversies, and bring new approaches to this topic. As the single largest organization representing mainstream and progressive people of faith in California, CCC equals in number the conservative denominational membership. Through our 21 communions, CCC can reach 6.5 million individuals with a core of 1.5 million who are direct allies. The Council is a public policy office focused on bringing progressive and inclusive values into public policy debates and advocating (through our sister 501(c)(4) nonprofit California Church IMPACT), for the most at-risk in our society.

The mission of the California Council of Churches is to be a prophetic witness to the Gospel by educating faith communities to pursue justice, equity and fairness in the treatment of all people, in particular those most vulnerable in our society.
