The Objective of Paradise Gardeners is to promote an active interest in gardening, civic improvement, horticultural education and related subjects and assist in movements for conserving our natural resources and enhancing the beauties in Southeastern San Diego.
To fulfill this objective we have created Paradise Hills Native Garden on a 5 acre old covered landfill in Paradise Hills area of Southeastern San Diego. The garden is on about 2 acres of the landfill and includes 4 different garden themes : Pollinator Garden, Kumeyaay Ethnobotany Garden, Western Native and Butterfly Garden. We began the garden by advocating with the city in 2017 and broke ground in 2020. We have funded the garden through grants and donations. The garden includes educational plant signs, signage, benches, boulders over 400 native plants and trees and new walking paths. We hold twice monthly volunteer maintenance days for community members to participate in the garden and enjoy the butterflies and birds while working.
