Since its inception, Rhode Island LISC has invested over $120 million in neighborhood revitalization, affordable housing, child care and economic development projects across the state. LISC financing has fostered the development of over 3,000 apartments and homes and over 350,000 square feet of neighborhood commercial and retail space in the state. LISC funding has leveraged more than $350 million in public and private resources for these developments. In its capacity as a financing organization, LISC has consistently provided unique and critical finding for community development projects, often investing the earliest “risk capital” that enables a non-profit developer to bring a concept to reality and to provide streamlined funding that will enable the development movement/industry. A combination of a profound commitment to the mission by staff and local board members and high standards for performance has been a key to LISC’s success in Rhode Island.
By housing Rhode Island families, by providing a roof over their heads, a safe and affordable place to live, CDCs provide low-income families a starting point from which to build their lives. By rebuilding the physical infrastructure in low-income neighborhoods, CDCs provide the ‘place’ in which others can make investments in jobs, schools, health care and other services that communities and families need in order to thrive and prosper.
The LISC organization is strongly committed to the principle that it is most effective when decisions are locally driven. LISC does believe in local initiative, which it rewards by directly matching locally raised funds with national resources.
