About Us

ARTonAIR.org is the Web site and radio broadcast arm of the Clocktower Gallery, a globally-admired alternative cultural institution that, for 40 years, has supported innovative artists and musicians from its soaring spaces in lower Manhattan. In recent years it has produced and hosted major exhibitions by James Franco, Michael Stipe, Japanther, Shoplifter, Gamelatron and dozens more. Rufus Wainwright and Marina Abramović are on the Board. Bands, poets, and historians record in the studio facilities. Young artists encounter and learn from older artists who, in turn, are inspired anew. The receptions, openings, and parties are legendary and invitations are highly valued (honored this year by Paper Magazine as a top Arty Party site). The radio crew has extensive experience in remote broadcasts and top-level production (this team ran the official radio station of Art Basel Miami Beach and the Venice Biennale for years). Taken together the Clocktower Gallery/ARTonAIR.org operation is a vital and influential focus of creative cultural leaders and their followers.
