Founded in 1971, the Cambridge Women's Center offers FREE drop-in services to anyone for whom woman is a meaningful identifier or lived experience. It is open Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, from1-6pm. We strive to provide support and community to in a comfortable 4-story house a few blocks from Central Square, Cambridge. Those who use the Women's Center are very diverse, and include many who are homeless, survivors of sexual abuse, domestic violence, and other trauma.
Volunteers welcome and assist visitors. Women come for food, clothing, T-passes, and basic material goods like toilet paper, deodorant, and hand warmers, as well as emotional support, help finding resources, to use computers or a phone. There is a living, dining, clothing, and art room,kitchen, library, and an elevator to all four floors. We also offer support groups on-site, and remotely, facilitated by volunteers. Groups include: yoga, sewing, knitting, art, writing, trauma support, Spanish/English conversation, women over 65, coping group.
We ask for a commitment of at least 2-3 hours a week for at least 6 months. Basic orientation/training will be provided.
