About Us

Founded in 2003, Urban Initiatives is a nonprofit organization that runs youth development programs in the Chicago Public Schools (CPS). Urban Initiatives’ mission is to empower Chicago’s youth to become agents of community change through academic success, healthy living, and leadership development. We drive systemic change by connecting stakeholders and strengthening the social fabric of the community. Urban Initiatives takes a comprehensive approach to child development in order to provide children with the opportunity to reach their full potential and, ultimately, have a positive impact on their community. We offer a catalog of four sports-based youth development programs: Work to Play, Take the Lead, Coach for Success, and Play with Potential.

Currently, Urban Initiatives serves over 13,000 children in 51 Chicago Public Schools. 92% of Urban Initiatives participants come from low-income families, and we do not charge them a fee to participate. Check out our website - www.urbaninitiatives.org - to learn more about our work.
