  • About Us

The Ragdale house was designed in 1897 by Chicago architect Howard Van Doren Shaw as a family summer retreat, one that would become a haven for several generations of artists from many disciplines. Shaw’s granddaughter created the Ragdale Foundation in 1976, turning the home into a nonprofit artists’ community.  Now in its 44th year, Ragdale annually welcomes more than 200 authors and artists of multiple disciplines through residencies, fellowships, and thematic collaborations to its five-acre campus, giving them the time and space to advance their creative work. Ragdale’s commitment to community engagement, cultural equity, and arts education underpins dozens of public projects each year as well as the Ragdale In Schools programs.  For more information, please visit www.ragdale.org.

At the Ragdale Foundation we believe outstanding people are the key to our success. We value diversity in all its forms and are committed to an inclusive and transparent recruitment process. We recruit and hire without regard to race, national origin, religion, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, marital status, military or veteran's status, or age.
