The homestay program is an act of friendship, goodwill and understanding. It can also be supplemented with activities such as tours relating to a particular interest or simply having fun with sight seeing. Program duration is between 1 to 4 weeks.
This program seeks to inform, educate and entertain participants. The program begins with a five days orientation where the history, geography and kinship system of Ghana is digested. This introduction includes survival language lessons, recreational programs such as music and dance and folk tales. This is followed by living with a Ghanian host-family for two-weeks. Participants immerse themselves in the Ghanaian culture by living as a member of the family. This is followed by living in a selected project site in a rural community to construct projects such as school, clinics, community center or children playground. The program continues with travel and site seeing in Ghana, places include a fifteenth century slave castles, dotted along the Atlantic coast of Ghana.
Volunteering, enriches both the host community and the volunteer in the art of sharing and learning from each other.
The program is structured to inform and educate participants about life in Ghana while utilizing volunteer’s skills and abilities to contribute to the needs of host communities.
Opportunity for students to observe African business practices while contributing and sharing with new colleagues. Students acquire in-depth knowledge of how business is conducted in Africa thereby broadening their international perspective of the business world.
The program begins with orientation with your supervisor on arrival who assist in the adjustment process of the new environment. The program is for University- , and Professional students. Placement is offered according to specific needs and interest.
High school students spend academic year in Senior Secondary School (SSS) in Ghana staying with a host family for the period.This program is structured to give insight to participants to appreciate both the culture and the academic programs in the Ghanaian schools. Participants enjoy the services of IYEP supervisor who helps to solve problems both at school and the community
Ghana is a rich and vibrant country with a total of 4 National Conservation Parks. Our Safari Tours take participants to Mole National Park. The park has 90 species of mammal such as Elephants, Baboons, Roans, Antelopes, Buffaloes, Waterbucks, Kobs, Lions, Leopards, Gianthogs and Hyenas. The Park also provides guided tours into the savanna, to get a much closer look at some of the rarer and less frequently spotted animals of the park.
COLLABORATIVE PROJECTS
IYEP is involved with ELDERHOSTEL INC. an organisation based in Boston Massachusetts. USA, which develop academic based programs for, retired professionals. These programs are always thematic in contentand delivered by a member of academic instructors and workshop facilitators identified by IYEP. Although thematic in nature the program also gives a broad overview of the Ghanaian culture and more including basic language skills and training, environmental practices of the people and method of ecological preservation. The program is structured to give participant insight into traditional African thought and the emerging modernity in Africa socities.
WORLDWRITE
IYEP also has a working relationship with Worldwrite a charity organisation in the United Kingdom collaborating in many projects that enhance the development of young people in both countries and co-operating in many fields with financial and material support from the Commonwealth Youth Exchange Council.
