Action for Racial Justice

Action for Racial Justice will engage new voices to advocate for diminishing the impact of racism in nation, state, and local policies and in corporate practices.

Systemic bias produces racially distorted results in our systems of education, public safety, criminal justice, health care, voting, financial services, and corporate employment practices. Recent appalling episodes have focused attention on the larger consequences of racism and opened a window for catalyzing individual and community action.

Action for Racial Justice will help people of goodwill: LEARN more about historic and current issues of racism and racial injustice, DISCUSS alternatives to racially unjust systems and policies, SUPPORT ONE ANOTHER collaboratively, energetically, and courageously, and TAKE CONCRETE ACTION.

Action for Racial Justice creates a new mechanism for mobilizing additional voices in the struggle for racial equality and fairness. The project will organize small groups of justice-oriented individuals to collaborate within a larger community to open hearts, to change minds, to correct laws, and to repair the world. ARJ will coordinate with faith-based groups, social justice groups, community groups, and others to recruit and engage members. They will prepare themselves by reading and watching introductory materials, after which they will be scheduled for teleconferences of 8-12 individuals. Skilled facilitators, specially trained to help participants discuss racial issues and effective actions, will guide respectful and thoughtful conversations.

Central to ARJ’s mission is the translation of dissatisfaction into effective action.  Its goal is to directly and indirectly influence decision makers, stakeholders and relevant audiences to support and implement actions that build racial justice.
