Acacia Hospice and Home Care

About Us

Acacia Hospice and Home Care of Masonic Village in Burlington, NJ is a small non-profit end-of-life care organization serving Burlington County and surrounding counties. Our mission statement reads:

The Masonic Charity Foundation of New Jersey delivers personalized services and compassionate care, inspired by the spirit, ideals, and values of Freemasonry, to promote the highest quality of life for Freemasons, families, and others in the community. Our core values include compassion, excellence, stewardship, and community. As such, the team at Acacia Hospice prioritizes patient-centered care through various comfort measures. Our multi-faceted team can only continue to serve our community with the help of volunteers.

Volunteering in the hospice setting is rewarding; however, needless to say, it can also be difficult at times. In order to help prepare and educate our volunteers, we offer free easy-access online training, ongoing in-person mentorship, health screenings, and direct access to administration and nursing staff. We collaborate with our volunteers to utilize their unique skills through meaningful discussions about interests and desires. Some areas of hospice patient volunteerism include, but are not limited to: socialization, caring touch/massage therapy, meal assistance, religious support, reading and story telling, bereavement support, crocheting/knitting projects, Veteran support, art therapies, music playing and listening. We can train large groups of prospective volunteers as well as provide one-on-one training. The "come as you are" approach creates a relaxed, home-like environment, which many of our Elders appreciate. We do accept junior (17-) volunteers with the supervision of a parent or guardian. We highly recommend that our volunteers have a healthy outlook on death and dying, and that they have appropriately grieved any recent losses of loved ones. In order to assure that our volunteers do not experience burn-out or care giver fatigue, we recommend limiting time of volunteering to 1-5 hours a week as appropriate. Our team fosters an open and supportive environment where volunteers are seen and treated as equal and necessary members of the staff.
