About Us

AFRICUSSION International is a quintessential performing arts group that exists to meet recorded and live multicultural music needs of arts enthusiasts and corporate institutions. The name AFRICUSSION is a blend of two words, Africa and Discussion. AFRICUSSION takes inspiration from Africa percussion and it’s good communicative values in discussion and its ability to uniting communities. AFRICUSSION brings communities together through African and African inspired music and dance abroad. AFRICUSSION,therefore stands for diversity, unity and respect through music. As a multicultural group with experienced professional members from around the globe, AFRICUSSION International is a musical United Nations. The group is led by a Ghanaian ethnomusicologist and arts educator, Harold Akyeampong. AFRICUSSION International has various components. They include a Percussion ensemble, a Jazz ensemble and a Dance company. AFRICUSSION has performed at Lincoln Center-NYC,St. Mark's Church-NYC,LIRR Headquarters-NY, Restoration Plaza, Nation House,DC and at the International African Arts Festival in Brooklyn, New York.TRIBECA RoofTop and at the UN International Youth Day celebration in NYC. The group is available for performances and workshops in schools, corporations, charities, colleges, festivals and at other community events.
