About Us

Theatre Mission, Overview and Programming

Park Square opened in 1975 and has grown to become the largest mid-sized theatre in Minnesota. The work on our two stages (350-seat proscenium; 200-seat thrust) attracts this market's third largest subscriber base as well as a school audience of 30,000 teens (representing 1 in every 15 Minnesota 7th-12th grade students).

Powered by new Artistic Director Flordelino Lagundino, Park Square is an important regional hub for artistically innovative and civically engaged artists and audiences. The heart of our vision is a wide range of innovative, audacious, transformative theatre to represent and cross-pollinate a multiplicity of voices.

Park Square plays a leading role as a local producer of new work by living writers including world premiere commissions and important second productions of work in development. We have grown into one of Minnesota’s top employers of local stage talent. We have a strong commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion. We work with AEA (SPT6-10 and TYA), Stage Directors & Choreographers Society (SDC) and the Twin Cities Musicians Union for traditional musicals.

Park Square Theatre: Statement of Justice and Equity

Park Square Theatre acknowledges that systems are at work that create inequities. We are committed to undoing these systems with urgency and accountability. We believe sustained impact requires authentic relationships and transformative work, and to this end we are deeply invested in inviting the diversity of our communities to influence and lead us. We recognize that this goal is difficult and requires ongoing action, education, and shifting of organizational culture, practices and policies. We are responsible for this work as community members with a public platform and are working to promote a sense of belonging in the art we present. We strive to include all and to discriminate against none. We invite you to dialogue with us in upholding this statement.
