Since 1973, the mission of L/A Arts has been to contribute to the vibrancy and progress of L/A by developing impactful programs and events, supporting local arts and cultural institutions, and educating through the arts.
L/A Arts is the designated local arts agency for the Lewiston-Auburn twin cities. The organization believes in the need for the arts in L/A to add to the aesthetics, creativity, and the ongoing revitalization of the region, and positively impact people's lives by building community and educating through the arts. Over the years it has earned local, regional, and national recognition as a model for its initiatives, and toward the achievement of organizational objectives in L/A: enlivened and attractive downtown districts, advocacy and support for public art and arts institutions, contributions to the creative economy of the region, and education through the arts. It creates opportunities for community members across generations and social backgrounds to participate in distinctive and high quality art forms. It relies on strong cross-sector partnerships which bring broader perspectives and enhanced capacity toward strong, community tailored programs. Finally, the organization advocates for the multiple benefits of this work to our community, and measures them with comprehensive evaluation practices.
The organizations five core programs include: Artwalk L/A (www.artwalklewistonauburn.com), Ice Festival L/A (icefestla.com), Arts in Education, Arts and Culture L/A (www.artsandculturela.org, ), and its Public Art Sculpture Project.
