Opening in fall 2027, UTokyo College of Design (CoD) will develop future leaders who integrate design with diverse disciplines to solve global challenges. Inspired by UTokyo Compass principles, it fosters creativity, collaboration, and problem-solving, positioning design as a driver of societal transformation. Students will tackle complex issues with an innovative mindset, leveraging UTokyo’s extensive academic resources. CoD will be fully integrated into UTokyo’s academic framework, fostering knowledge exchange across faculties, schools, and institutes. The college’s global outlook will attract students from Japan and beyond, with all courses conducted in English. CoD’s unique structure and pedagogy emphasize hands-on, project-based learning and a low student-to-faculty ratio, ensuring personalized mentorship. Students will explore diverse fields while developing a strong foundation in design methodologies. The program is built on ‘Interdisciplinary Perspectives’ that address pressing contemporary issues, including sustainability, AI, social justice, business, and media.
