At any given time in our service area (Berrien and St. Joseph County MI) over 400 children live in foster care due to abuse or neglect. The Court Appointed Special Advocate Program of Southwest Michigan appreciates our 56 Court Appointed Special Advocate Volunteers who continue to make a difference in the lives of foster children and youth as well as Berrien and St. Joseph County (MI) foster families that have opened their homes and remained resilient during the COVID 19 pandemic.
A CASA Volunteer plays a critical role by advocating in the community and courtroom for the best interests of foster children. Having a CASA Volunteer as a caring consistent adult in the life of a child who has suffered abuse or neglect-someone who listens, checks in, follows up, holds the system accountable and puts the child’s best interest before all others’ -can make all the difference. Highly trained CASA volunteers step up to provide judges with the information they need to act in the best interests of the child.
