About Us

With the largest collection of American art in the world and the oldest federal art collection, the Smithsonian American Art Museum offers a stimulating environment for professional museum training.

Located in the historic Old Patent Office building (currently under renovation; re-opening July 4, 2006), the Museum has developed extensive research resources for the study of American Art and culture, including an award-winning scholarly journal and website.

Since 1968, the Museum's internship programs have provided instruction and inspiration to hundreds of graduate and undergraduate students.
