Diamond Educational Excellence Partnership (DEEP)

The Diamond Educational Excellence Partnership (DEEP) is a nonprofit organization committed to changing life outcomes for children attending public schools in southeastern San Diego. DEEP’s mission is to mobilize community organizations around a research-guided theory of change designed to ensure that children living in a cluster of neighborhoods commonly referred to as the Diamond Community enter kindergarten prepared for success and complete third grade reading proficiently. The importance of this mission cannot be overstated given the well-documented connection between end-of-third-grade reading skills and high school graduation. The current gaps in early reading performance between San Diego’s least and most affluent communities mirror an opportunity gap across communities in resources and supports available to children early in their educational journeys.
