Legal Aid of Western Missouri

The mission of Legal Aid of Western Missouri is to improve the lives of those in need by providing quality legal assistance. Legal Aid of Western Missouri (Legal Aid) has provided essential legal services to low-income people since 1964 to ensure equal access to justice for those without the ability to pay. We provide high quality, free legal assistance to people who need it most and can afford it least; the elderly, disabled, homeless, domestic abuse victims, indigent families with children and the working poor. With offices in downtown Kansas City, Joplin, St. Joseph, Warrensburg and a neighborhood office on Kansas City's Westside, we serve a 40-county area where at least 295,000 people live in poverty.

Legal Aid's entire staff is committed to serving those in need and has a tremendous wealth of experience. Many of our attorneys are regionally and nationally recognized leaders in their practice areas. Our staff includes: 52 attorneys; 29 paralegals; 14 legal secretaries and intake specialists; and, ten administrative staff. The experience of our staff allows us to efficiently handle thousands of cases with successful outcomes. In 2010, Legal Aid closed 6,265 civil cases to benefit another 10,000 family members impacted by positive outcomes.
