REDUCE WASTE CHICAGO

  • Mission

Reduce Waste Chicago is a nonprofit organization that empowers residents to address climate change through waste reduction on a personal, producer and policy level. We collect - We host Reuse & Recycling Pop-Up events across the city, where we collect a selection of items that can be reused, repurposed or are difficult to recycle. We inspire - Connecting with people and collaborating with organizations is integral to our work. Here are just some of the ways we share best practices: Markets & festivals; Schools; Civic organizations. We advocate - We support and share information about policies that make it easier for residents to reduce waste, hold producers accountable for the lifecycle of their products, and require governments to provide more environmentally-conscious services.

    About Us

We were originally organized in 2021 under the North Center Neighbors Association. In 2024 we became a 501(c)(3). In 2024 we collected over 15,000 pounds of materials and kept those items out of our landfill. In our first two events of 2025, we've collected over 8,000 pounds of materials. Our volunteers are integral to our collection events, as well as our behind-the-scenes operations as we continue to grow.
