Mission  Providing resources and services to help women achieve independence and well-being.

Vision  A community where all women achieve their unique potential.

The Women's Center of Greater Lansing (WCGL) is a private, nonprofit organization located in Lansing, Michigan for the purpose of helping women achieve their potential. The WCGL helps women achieve their potential by providing programs and services that help them overcome the barriers that get in the way of achieving their potential. Go to www.womenscenterofgreaterlansing.org to check out what the Women's Center offers.

The WCGL was started by women in leadership with the National Organization for Women who answered a 24 hr hotline and received desperate calls for help and there was nowhere to send them. The Women's Center serves anyone who identifies as a woman on a sliding fee scale starting at $1. We are in the process of be able to take insurance. It's a long, frustrating, arduous process and we hope to prevail! The Women's Center is not a faith based organization and welcomes women from anywhere and with any experiences. The Women's Center is not a shelter however about 75-80% of the women we serve have a history of domestic violence and/or sexual assault.

The primary reason the Center was was created is to help women find, get and keep good paying jobs with benefits. Economic self-sufficiency allows women to not have to worry about how they can take care of themselves and their families when making decisions about whether to leave a bad relationship or job. Our goal for our clients is one job at a living wage with benefits.

The services provided are to help women overcome the barriers to success and primarily consist of counseling (individual, couples, family and career) and support groups that are issue specific, e.g. domestic violence, sexual assault among others.

The WCGL has a professional women's clothing closet that is free to anyone who needs clothing. The closet only takes interview apparel and provides head to toe clothing, shoes, and accessories. There is also a small wig bank for women in cancer treatment.

The Women's Center is also home to the Women in Skilled Trades program (WIST). WIST is a free, 13 week apprenticeship readiness program that prepares women to go into an apprenticeship in the construction trades upon graduation.
