About Us

The Children’s Bereavement Center’s (CBC) mission is to empower grieving children, teens and adults to adjust to life after the loss of a loved one within a supportive community of their peers, and to promote healthful grief, resilience, and growth.

Founded in 1999, the CBC is the only ongoing, comprehensive bereavement center providing free Bereavement Peer Support Groups to grieving children and their families in South Florida. CBC’s weekly grief peer support groups reach close to 1,000 children, adults (both younger and older) and their families annually. Prior to the pandemic, the groups operated at nine sites in Miami-Dade, Broward, and Palm Beach Counties. Since March 2020, all groups are held online through Zoom and this expansion to virtual support groups allowed participants outside of South Florida to join the groups. CBC Outreach and education touches more than 10,000 people each year, providing information on the impact of loss as well as serving as a referral source. Finally, the CBC Training Institute receives requests for paid grief informed training from around the country.
