Pathways is a program that provides financial, social, academic and advocacy support to high school students. The areas we serve are low-income, high-risk neighbourhoods where students don't historically meet with great academic success across the board. In Regent Park, this program was responsible for reducing the dropout rate from 56% to 10% and doubled the number of students in that area who go on to post-secondary. Lots more info is available at www.pathwaystoeducation.ca.
The backbone of this program is the work of the volunteer tutors and mentors. Students go to tutoring two nights a week and to mentoring one night a week in five-week blocks. The minimum requirement for volunteers is 2 hours a week.
