  • About Us

Since the late 1800s, the UC Berkeley Graduate School of Education has had a rich and active history, playing a vital role in the educational community. Our mission and goals are 1)addressing the challenge of diversity, 2)understanding fundamental literacies and how to foster them, and 3)developing and elaborating theories of thinking, learning, and teaching in complex social settings, including homes, schools, and workplaces. We offer research degrees leading to the M.A. and Ph.D. in human development, math/science development, school psychology, special education, as well as programs in math/science and technology, literacy, social & cultural studies, athletics & academic achievement, policy & evaluation, and educational leadership. In some programs, the Ed.D. is also an option. Besides the research-oriented degrees, we offer combined credential/M.A. programs for secondary multicultural urban English, secondary math/science, elementary education, and a principal leadership administrative credential.
