About Us

The Healthy Community Curry Kitchen aims to reduce food insecurity, improve overall community health, and build community solidarity.

Founded in July 2007, the Healthy Community Curry Kitchen provides daily school lunch for children at the Niggaha Primary School. Community members volunteer to prepare lunch each day. The Ministry of Health coordinates bi-monthly health outreach including health education and on-site medical and dental clinics. • The Niggaha School has 43 students in grades one through eight • Lunch includes red rice, vegetable curry, fish or lentil curry, a salad of local greens, and fresh fruit • The Curry Kitchen has served over 18,000 plates of Curry • Each plate of curry costs 55¢ • $120 will provide lunch for one child for an entire school year • $500 will fund the Curry Kitchen for one month
