  • About Us

Ox-Bow's mission is to serve as a haven for the creative process through instruction, example, and community.

Ox-Bow's campus encompasses 115-acres of pristine natural forests, dunes, a lagoon, and historic buildings located in Saugatuck, MI. Ox-Bow has been in operation for over 100 years and continues to provide an immersive environment for artists to explore traditional and contemporary modes of art-making. Ox-Bow provides a singular experience that respects historical techniques while bending genres into new formats, in an environment outside of the everyday, where creativity is paramount.

There are a variety of ways to engage in the program, from being a student, artist in residence, faculty member, visiting artist, or fellowship student. Whether you are there to learn, teach, or work in the studio, artists find that Ox-Bow invigorates them with fresh ideas to bring back to the studio. Through its affiliation with The School of the Art Institute of Chicago, Ox-Bow offers one and two week courses for credit and non-credit, for beginning, intermediate, and advanced students. Ox-Bow's administrative offices are located on the School of the Art Institute of Chicago campus in downtown Chicago.
