About Us

The mission of Luna Negra Dance Theater is to celebrate international Latino art and expression through the creation and performance of works by contemporary Latino choreographers, and through dance education and community outreach programs that lead to discovery and exploration of personal and community identity. Today, Luna Negra sustains a company of 10 dancers, a professional management and artistic staff, and an active and engaged 16-person board of directors that is more than 50% Latino.

The company fulfills its mission through: a) self-produced public spring and fall season performances at Chicago’s Harris Theater in Millennium Park, the company’s home venue; b) national and international touring; c) a significant commissioning program to support the work of emerging and established Latino and Latina choreographers; and d) a wide range of education and outreach programming for at-risk Latino and African-American youth in underserved Chicago Public Schools.
