  • About Us

Mission Statement: Our mission is to showcase that Africa is rich when it comes to the pipeline of STEM talent; to change the gender balance in STEM for generations to come.

To create Africa's future STEM leaders; to foster an environment that encourages innovative solutions to Africa's problems. Our mission is to empower gifted African girls through STEM education projects and initiatives. We envisage a world where women and girls are at the forefront of Africa’s STEM future. We seek out gifted young women from across Africa and provide them with the springboard they need to develop their skills and talents at our Ghana-based school, the African Science Academy (ASA).

2022 Programs: Our main program is running the African Science Academy (ASA), a STEM-focused academy for gifted African girls from low income backgrounds across

Africa. We scour the continent for Africa's brightest young minds and provide them with an intensive one-year programme of Maths, Further Maths, Physics and Computer Science - all on full scholarships. Our students also study robotics, computer programming and are exposed to a range of extracurricular activities such as sports and a broad range of speakers and workshops to provide them with a well rounded education that equips them with the skills of the future. At the heart of the ASA model, is a commitment to growing a network of empowered, gifted, young black women in STEM who will play a key role in the development of their countries and Africa more widely.

African Science Academy was founded in 2016 by the African Gifted Foundation. In just five years, we have educated over 100 academically gifted young women from 12 countries across Africa. In 2022 we are expanding our cohort from 25 girls a year to 50 girls. With this expansion we are also building a new building and recruiting more teachers. We have had 731 applications from 21 African countries for these 50 spots; they will start their education with us in August.

In 2022 we are expanding our alumni programme to help support girls once they leave ASA; we have graduates in universities and placements all around the world. We are expanding our partnerships with universities and our scholarship offerings so that girls can access a wide variety of opportunities.

We want to continue to facilitate learning and training to improve the teaching of STEM subjects across Ghana and Africa more broadly. As part of our outreach work, we also run

advanced teacher training sessions for secondary school level Maths teachers across Ghana. The training sessions aim to improve Maths teaching across the country by providing teachers with practical teaching and assessment methods and training in how to embed gender and inclusivity in the classroom. Over the past four years, we have

trained over 400 teachers, benefiting over 40,000 students across Ghana. Alongside our plans to expand the school, we plan to train 2,500 teachers by 2031 and to expand the

    training program beyond Ghana.
