    About Us

In the heart of Manhattan, just steps from the lights of Broadway and the pulse of Times Square, there is a place that quietly and powerfully serves its neighbors with grace, compassion, and care. That place is the beautiful St. Luke's Lutheran Church.

For 175 years,100 in this location, St. Luke's has been not only a spiritual home to generations of New Yorkers and international visitors alike. It has been a partner and a servant to the Hell’s Kitchen community. Through world wars, urban challenges, pandemics, and the ever-changing landscape of Midtown, St. Luke's has stood as a beacon of light—a place of gathering, open welcome and community.

St. Luke’s is not only a sanctuary, it’s a connecting place for many, — worshippers, creatives, neighbors, workers, immigrants, students, professionals, and tourists. Our building is a hub for service and culture:

More than one million New Yorkers are food insecure, including children. We provide over 25,000 hot, prepared meals every year.

Addiction recovery and LGBTQ+ support groups find safe space to meet here.

We lift up the arts, sacred and secular, providing performance rehearsal spaces.

We are a home for non-profits that serve youth in New York and beyond.

As the world rushes by outside our brick walls, inside we gather, working together, welcoming the stranger, feeding the hungry, nurturing the arts, promoting child and youth development, and providing a space of solace in the city that never sleeps.
