We intervene by
CREATING COMMUNITY: Building a crowd of 312,000 citizen protectors who have the motivation, skills and networks that enable them to protect 468,000 children from maltreatment and harm + to spread protective norms throughout society.
USING TECH FOR GOOD: Developing and deploy a mobile SMS platform that enables us to map, track, communicate with, and mobilise citizens who want to do the right thing.
DE-COLONISING RESEARCH: Building an evidence base about the beliefs and actions of a growing mass of child protectors; demonstrating the social value being generated by the crowd of protectors; and demonstrating what works to prevent and respond to violence against children in East Africa.
DEVELOPING THE SOCIAL BUSINESS: Working towards proof of concept by end 2023 so that we are positioned to scale.
We currently have the following projects:
1/ Piloting the tech with Childs I Foundation’s child protection volunteers in Makindye & Tororo Uganda so that they can better monitor their efforts in strengthening families and keeping children out of orphanages.
2/ Understanding the prevalence, nature and drivers of violence in schools in Tanzania on behalf of Porticus Foundation.
3/ Strengthening the ability of students to keep themselves safe and create safe schools with the Tanzanian Junior Council.
4/ A two-year action research project with the University of Dar es Salaam and Women Fund Tanzania to resolve the collective action problem of violence against women and children in Shinyanga district, Tanzania.
