  • Mission

The mission of the Latin American Children’s Fund is to provide food, clothing, shelter and education to, and promote the welfare of, children in Central America.

    About Us

Latin American Children's Fund was founded in 1988 by Florence Mediate, an American born in El Salvador, after she'd visited an orphanage in her native country and been horrified by what she saw. Upon returning to the United States, with the help of friends she was able to collect and deliver clothing, toys, linens, and much needed medical supplies to those in need.

While our goals remain the same as in 1988, our methods of helping children in Latin America have changed. As it became more difficult to secure donated air freight and shipping, our primary focused changed to collecting money and spending it wisely in the local economies of El Salvador, Guatemala and Nicaragua. For example, instead of delivering blankets to children forced to sleep under leaky roofs, we find a local contractor who can fix the leaks and then provide money to buy new blankets. We currently work through organizations that have staff in country to accomplish our mission. Would you like to join our mission?
