About Us

The Girl Scout Council of The Southern Appalachians (the Council) is a new Girl Scout Council being created as a result of an upcoming merger of the Girl Scouts of Tanasi Council, Girl Scout Council of Moccasin Bend and Girl Scouts of the Appalachians Council, Inc.. The merger will occur effective October 1, 2009. The new organization will be headquartered in Knoxville, Tennessee. The new Council will serve approximately 20,000 girls and 6,000 adult volunteers. It will have a staff of about 60 persons and a budget of approximately $5 million. The Council is seeking an experienced Chief Executive Officer to lead it after the merger takes place. The new Council will serve 50 counties in East Tennessee, Northwest Georgia and Southwest Virginia.
