Project Ix-canaan’s mission is to empower the community of El Remate, Guatemala, by creating sustainable opportunities in education, healthcare, and environmental stewardship. Working hand in hand with local families, the project is rooted in a commitment to dignity, resilience, and long-term community-led development in a region shaped by past conflict and ongoing social challenges.

Through its medical and dental clinics, women’s center, and children’s center, Ix-canaan fosters safe, inclusive spaces where individuals can learn, heal, and grow. At the heart of its mission is the protection of the surrounding rainforests—vital to both cultural identity and economic sustainability—ensuring that the community can preserve and benefit from its natural environment for generations to come.

Project Ix-canaan is a community-led initiative based in El Remate, Guatemala, working in close partnership with local families to support sustainable development and improve quality of life. Since its founding in 1995, the project has focused on providing access to essential services such as healthcare, education, and community development, while fostering long-term resilience.

Through programs including a medical and dental clinic, women’s center, and child development center, Ix-canaan creates opportunities for learning, wellbeing, and economic empowerment. At the same time, the project supports environmental stewardship by working with the community to protect the surrounding rainforests, which are vital to local livelihoods and cultural heritage.
