  • About Us

We believe in the power of the artist to create change. Skylight Theatre Company expands the boundaries of mainstream theatre through the telling of relevant and more inclusive stories. A vibrant family of artists, Skylight discovers, develops, and produces new works. With a commitment to local artists and telling stories that reflect Southern California’s rich diversity of cultures, ethnicities, and experiences, Skylight’s goal is to promote understanding through original works that resonate with audiences and help stimulate conversation.

Founded in 1983, Skylight has presented over 100 world premiere plays and hosted more than 2,500 artists. Our 2021/2022 Collaborative Season produced in partnership with Playwrights’ Arena will include four world premiere plays. In 2011, Skylight was reinvented by dedicating the organization to furthering the voices, talents, and perspectives of those who are underrepresented and underserved in Los Angeles. We work toward our goal by finding, developing, and producing compelling works by and with local artists. The national Dramatist Magazine recognized Skylight in 2013 as a “powerhouse of new play development and nationwide productions and awards have followed.” Our 99-seat venue is located on Vermont Ave. in Los Feliz—home to locally owned restaurants, coffee shops, thrift stores, and other shops.
