Our mission is to strengthen and stimulate the economic development of low-income neighborhoods. Provide underserved communities with accessible innovative programs and services that empower residents and merchants to positively impact the fiscal health and future of their community.
For the past 15 years, The David E. Glover Education and Technology Center (DEGETC) has provided critical technology services to Oakland communities to support youth, individuals and families strive towards economic empowerment.
The enduring vision of DEGETC is to ensure that the infinite potential of technology innovation is accessible to everyone, especially low-income people and people of color so that they can benefit from, participate in, and drive the technology-driven economy.OCCUR has long known that technology and the ability to utilize it has become a prerequisite to accessing meaningful educational and employment opportunities. In an effort to bridge the ever –growing digital divide, DEGETC has provided place-based (a center for orbital programs) technology programs to Oakland communities to support youth, individuals and families strive towards economic empowerment. Over the last year, OCCUR Leadership has continued to refine the Center’s strategic focus by expanding its offerings and partnering with innovative tech literacy programs to bring coding, gaming, and design thinking to Oakland.
TECH U CODING:
The curriculum leverages contemporary coding languages (e.g. Scratch, App Inventor, Python & Java) coupled with a design thinking and project based learning theory to teach youth how to design and build computer games and apps.
DIGITAL MEDIA PRODUCTIONS:
Audio and video content productions program component to complement and support all the Center's programs.
