Indy Hunger Network partners with Share Our Strength Cooking Matters to host Cooking Matters classes all over Marion County. The Cooking Matters program teaches low-income individuals to cook healthy nutritious meals on a budget, specifically parents and caregivers of children ages 0-5 years old but is not limited to this population. We offer Cooking Matters for Kids (2nd -5th grade), Cooking Matters for Families, and Cooking Matters for Adults. In each class, participants cook healthy meals with the group and then take those ingredients home with them to prepare for their families. One week is specifically geared towards teaching participants how to build a meal for their family using all 5 food groups for just $10 at a local grocery store. Participants receive a textbook that shares multiple cooking techniques, recipes, menu planning guides, how to make the most of the food you have, specific cooking terms and more.
