About Us

MyGoodDeed is the respected U.S.-based nonprofit that founded and annually organizes the September 11 National Day of Service and Remembrance (“9/11 Day”), when Americans and others annually observe the anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks as a national day of unity, peace and charitable service. MyGoodDeed created 9/11 Day to: (1) annually remind all Americans of the importance of valuing diversity and working together in harmony to make the world a better place, and (2)identify and activate positive ways for the nation to forever remember and pay tribute to the 9/11 victims, as well as those who rose in service in response to the attacks, including first responders, recovery workers, volunteers, and members of the military.

In 2009, the U.S. Congress and President Barack Obama joined together to formally designate the anniversary of 9/11 Day as a federally-recognized national day of service. Today an estimated 30 million Americans observe 9/11 Day by helping others in need and doing good deeds, making 9/11 Day the nation’s largest annual day of charitable engagement.

Each year, to support the continued growth of the 9/11 Day observance, MyGoodDeed works with many national partners to:

  • Organize prominent large-scale and grassroots service projects in observance of 9/11 Day;
  • Develop and provide free educational curricula to help tens of thousands of K-12 teachers, and college educators, engage students in service learning for 9/11 Day;
  • Cultivate partnerships and programs with the help of a nationwide coalition (“Tomorrow Together”) inclusive of nonprofits, faith-based groups, employers and schools, and;
  • Conduct national marketing, advertising, public relations, and social media campaigns to promote public awareness of and participation in the 9/11 Day observance.

Funding for 9/11 Day activities comes principally from grants made by corporations and foundations, along with some federal funding authorized by the U.S. Congress.  These funds are used to support MyGoodDeed’s volunteer projects, including the “9/11 Day Meal Pack for NYC,” the largest service project held annually in NYC in observance of the 9/11 anniversary. Other sources of revenue include private donations by individuals.
