  • Mission

Community Music Center was founded in 1921 on the philosophy that age, ethnic background, and income level must never be obstacles to participation in the life-enhancing qualities of a music education. CMC is a community resource where the study of music is a cherished undertaking and the program is based on excellence, diversity, and accessibility.

    About Us

Community Music Center (CMC), founded in 1921, is a nonprofit music school and performance space with branches in the Mission and Richmond Districts. CMC makes high-quality music accessible to people of all ages, backgrounds and abilities, regardless of financial means. CMC provides the largest tuition assistance program of its kind in the country, awarding $2.9 million in tuition assistance last year and serving more than 3,300 students. The school offers classes in a wide range of musical styles, including jazz, blues, Latin, pop, folk, rock, and western classical. CMC also presents free and low-cost events, workshops, and master classes for its students and for the public. Learn more at sfcmc.org,
