About Us

The Arizona Center for Law in the Public Interest is a nonprofit, non-partisan public interest law firm dedicated to ensuring government accountability and protecting Arizonans’ legal rights. We defend the civil and legal rights of Arizonans, pursuing cases with enduring social, public health and environmental impacts statewide. The Center is considered one of the most effective state-based public interest firms in the United States.

Through the decades, we have:

·        Secured billions of dollars in crucial funding for public schools.

·        Fought on behalf of more than 15,000 foster children in State care.

·        Defended Arizona’s expansion of AHCCCS, ensuring coverage for hundreds of thousands of people and saving countless lives.

·        Negotiated on behalf of environmental interests for stringent groundwater protections.

·        Enforced the rights of all Arizonans to breathe clean air.

·        Won a landmark case establishing the public trust doctrine in Arizona, protecting navigable rivers for future generations.

·        Advocated for consumers in rate cases before the Arizona Corporation Commission.

·        Protected employment rights for women, the disabled, and others.

·        Helped ensure an open, transparent government.

While our current docket tends to emphasize environmental issues, education, democracy, and healthcare, there are no restrictions on the kinds of public interest cases the Center can accept.
